The term "certified personal trainer" is thrown around so much these days that it really has no meaning. What is a certified personal trainer? A "certified personal trainer" could be a fitness professional with several degrees in the health and fitness field and years of experience, or it could refer to an individual that paid $50 to take an online exam and 20 minutes later received a certificate calling them a certified personal trainer.
The certification is an important step in the initial, and continued, education process of a fitness professional, but it should not be the only step. There are countless bogus organizations out there "certifying" anyone and everyone as long as they pay the certification fee. These certifications deliver absolutely no educational benefit to the "trainer" and in no way prepare the "trainer" to safely and effective work with you, the client.
Reputable fitness certifications will require to the trainer to have a solid background in the exercise sciences, study hard for months, and take the certification exam on-site (not online). The top certifications will require a minimum of a bachelors degree.
The professionals at Hudson Valley Fitness hold at least one certification from the top organizations in the industry (and/or have a degree in the exercise sciences)*. These organizations include:
the National Academy of Sports Medicine
,
the National Strength and Conditioning Association
,
American Counsel on Exercise
, and
the American College of Sports Medicine
.
All HVF professionals have years of experience helping clients reach their goals and all are fully insured.
When looking for the right fitness professional (HVF or elsewhere), be sure to ask for references and check on their credentials.
*Some HVF Professionals may have fitness certifications that differ from the certifications mentioned above. In these cases, those professionals were determined by the HVF staff to have the education, experience, personality, and knowledge necessary to deliver a safe and effective fitness service.
The team of HVF Professionals support and educate one another, so when you hire HVF, you hire a team, not an individual.
